The Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project is being constructed on the Swat River, about 5 km upstream of the existing Munda Headworks in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project features a 213-metre-high concrete-face rockfill dam and has an installed capacity of 800 MW, with annual electricity generation estimated at about 2.86 billion units.
Beyond power generation, the multipurpose project is designed to provide about 1.29 million acre-feet of gross water storage, support flood control in downstream areas and provide 300 million gallons of drinking water per day for Peshawar. It will also contribute to irrigation and local socio-economic development.
