Chinese technology companies welcomed to explore Pakistani market: Moin ul Haque

BEIJING, July 21 (Gwadar Pro) - Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque has said that Pakistan offered huge business and investment opportunities to the Chinese technologies companies and asked them to visit and explore Pakistan as their future businesses and investment destination.

“The Pakistani government is promoting the establishment of Chinese industries, manufacturing units in special economic and technologies zones and is facilitating their exports to the neighbouring regions,” he said while addressing China Pakistan Technology Investment Conference jointly hosted by Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA) and Pakistani Embassy in Beijing.

Ambassador Haque said that Pakistan’s young population presents a great potential and opportunities for the Chinese companies to establish their businesses in Pakistan and make use of huge skilled human resource in fields of IT and software.

Pakistan can also serve as a very important regional hub for the Chinese companies to do business with Central Asia, Middle East and onwards to Africa, he added.

He said that the Chinese enterprises are being offered special incentives and tax rebates as well as other facilities to set up their businesses.

Ambassador Haque mentioned the presence of a number of Chinese technologies companies, particularly Huawei which has a very old association and important business with Pakistan. He pointed out that other Chinese companies like Alibaba, Tencent, Xiaomi, ZTE, Oppo and Haier as well as automobile and electric vehicle manufacturing companies are now looking at Pakistan as their future investment destination.

He remarked that the cooperation between the two countries in trade, investment and technology has become a very important part of bilateral agenda and one of the manifestation is China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He also said the two countries have already constitute a joint working group on science and technology. Last year, both countries established a new working group in the field of information technology which will give a strong boost to cooperation in areas of artificial intelligence, robotics, cloud computing, bio medical engineering, smart industries, and semiconductor industry. 

“We have also established China-Pakistan digital corridor with the aim to promote and strengthen our cooperation in the field of digitalization and emerging technologies,” he added.

While appreciating China's progress in the field of science and technology and IT, he said that China is now leading in many new technologies and Pakistan is very keen to develop a close relationship with Chinese institutions and private sector and learn from Chinese expertise and experience in these fields. 

The Ambassador said that the two countries are also promoting very close collaboration besides the technology companies, and “we are very grateful to many Chinese universities for helping Pakistan in the field of academics and research.”

He termed the holding of conference a very important step towards strengthening China-Pakistan cooperation in the IT sector. He further expressed the confidence that the conference would bring forward new ideas and important suggestions to promote cooperation and bring investments for both countries.
