Snack Video, BIGO obtained ‘registration certificates, from PTA

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday awarded Joyo Technology Pakistan Pvt Ltd (Snack Video) and BIGO Service Pakistan Pvt Ltd (BIGO Live, Likee) with “registration certificates”.

Under the “Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguard) Rules 2021, Signiant social media companies are required to register with PTA.

Representatives of the two companies attended an event held at the PTA headquarters in Islamabad, where they were awarded with the certificate. Chairman PTA Major General Amir Azeem Bajwa (R) and other senior officials attended the event.

Snack Video and BIGO Lives/Likee are the first companies to register with PTA, under the Rules 2021.

Snack Video, is a popular short video sharing App in Pakistan and Indonesia, whose parent Kuaishou Technology is a popular Chinese software company. The app is similar to Kuaishou, which is one of the popular video sharing apps in mainland China. Joyo Technology Pakistan Pvt Ltd developed the Snack Video with over 100 million downloads at Google Play store.

JOYY Inc. (formerly known as YY Inc.), a leading global social media platform, currently operates several social platforms, including Bigo Live for live streaming, Likee for short-form videos, according to the company’s website.
