Karachi Green Line BRT becomes fully functional
KARACHI, Jan 10 (Gwadar Pro)- After a month-long trial operation, the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System Karachi becomes fully functional on Monday.
“Today the full commercial operations of greenline have started,” Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiative Asad Umar said in a tweet on Jan 10.
There are 22 stations while 80 buses will run 13 hours a day between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Mr. Umar stated. The green line service runs from Numaish Chowrangi to Abdullah Chowrangi in Surjani Town.
The 18-meter-long Chinese-made buses have a capacity of 40 seats each. The Green Line BRT has the capacity of facilitating 300,000 passengers daily.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated the trial operation of Green Line BRT on December 10, 2021.
The Government of Pakistan had initiated the Rs 27 billion greenline BRT project in 2016 to provide reliable, safe, affordable, high quality and fast bus service and to improve the quality of life of commuters in Karachi. Besides improving the public transport system in Karachi, the project will provide infrastructure that allows buses to ply in an efficient manner with exclusive right-of-way for a significant portion of their route length and to reduce travel time.
