Islamabad (April 3): A Karachi-based firm on Friday announced to have obtained approval from Chinese customs authorities for export of heat-treated beef meat to China.

The Organic Meat Co., revealed the big news through a disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The firm’s managing director Faisal Hussain told Gwadarpro that their company became the first in Pakistan to have obtained such approval. It’s because we installed the facility required to treat foot and mouth disease in beef meat through heat. The plant has also been installed by Chinese experts, he said.

Hussain said that the Chinese authorities had given the approval after their firm obtained all the necessary certificates from Pakistani government and third parties.

Initially, we will process 300 tonnes of beef for exporting the same to China. Presently, we are looking for potential clients in China after which we will extend our plant, Hussain said. We received the approval just the other day, he said, adding that they were going to launch a robust marketing campaign in China for their product.

Earlier, when contacted, a couple of senior officials in the Karachi headquarters of The Organic Meat Co., talked to Gwadarpro on condition of anonymity. The jubilant officials expressed the hope that the development meant a big achievement for their company. After winning over Chinese market, we will also get the confidence to explore other markets as well, one of the officials said.

It’s pertinent to mention here that only a month ago Chinese Consulate General in Karachi Libijian had invited Pakistani cattle farmers and traders to export their organic products into the Chinese markets. He had extended all sorts of help in this regard.
